SHORTS FROM BEFORE AND AFTER, featuring cellist Colin Stokes, pianist Alice G. Young and writer Michele Herman

 

Presenting works by Fauré, Lasser, Lutoslawski ,Pärt, Rachmaninoff, Webern, with readings by Michele Herman herself, and from Animalinside by László Krasznahorkai.

 

Colin Stokes is a New York based cellist performing and recording extensively in the United States and Europe. His wide ranging interests have led to collaborations with artists from many genres, including Yo-yo Ma, Rodney Croweil, Olafur Arnaids, Jean-Michel Pilc and Max Richter.

Recent tours have taken Mr. Stokes to Paris with pianist Alice G. Young, to Boston with petrol Klampanis Group, to Colorado with Le Train Bleu at the Bravo! Vail Festival, to Berlin and Hamburg with Symphoniacs, and through the midwestern United States with ArtsFi He has collaborated with the arts journal Music and Literature on performances at issue release events featuring composers profiled by the journal. At a recent release, Mr. Stokes performed a program of music by the Slovak composer Vladimir Godár. He recently performed at Carnegie Hall with the Mimesis Ensemble, in Abu Dhabi with Bayt al Oud and in New York as port of a Lincoln Center residency. His recent recording projects include work with the Petros Klampanis Group, Banda Magda and the bluegrass group Monroeville.

Colin Stokes completed his Bachelor of Music degree and Performer’s Certificate in the studio of Steven Doane and Rosemary Elliott at the Eastman School of Music. In 2012 Stokes completed the Master of Music degree at The Juilliard School with Richard Aaron. In fall 2014 he studied contemporary performance with Fred Sherry at Manhattan School of Music.
